I had heard something about that, but not any specifics like you just mentioned. Based on what you say above McCain was right to back away from him. Obama should have done the same when the first stuff from Wright came out. Instead he will continue to have to answer questions, and this whole thing will never go away. Did you hear what he said yesterday in answer about a question about why he compared his grandmother's words to Writhts? I paraphrase from memory, but it went something like this: "I didn't mean that my grandmother was racist - she is a typical white woman who has a bred in fear of black men". A rather astounding statement from one who is supposed to unite us and raise us up to a new awareness, or "transcend" race, whatever that means.

Oh, MSM! You said MS"N" - I thought you were talking about MSN.com, as in the news website for Microsoft. Should have known...

Anyway, I'm not conservative, so I don't set out to read conservative opinion columns and I don't know why you expect me to. I don't expect you to read articles on Salon.com either. I was talking about where I get NEWS, not opinion pieces. You don't get NEWS from Townhall.com, any more than I read NEWS on Salon. I'm so tired of talking about the main stream media. I don't care. I know millions of Americans watch the crap on television news but I don't, because it's sickening

I believe NPR to be an exemplary news source. It's exceptionally informative and provides in-depth stories on the war, the economy, politics, etc. Not that there aren't explicitly slanted feature programs that are played on NPR stations, but the actual NPR News reporters and their news coverage, particularly for international news, is outstanding. There is nothing like it on television.

Just curious if you have read anything about Rev. John Haggee and his endorsement of John McCain. It's not like McCain went to his church or had a long-time personal relationship with him, but reportedly McCain went after his endorsement (you know, looking for the evangelical vote), then when his very anti-homosexual, anti-Palestinian views started to come out, McCain backed away from him. This guy is the sort that says 911 was punishment from God for the U.S. being full of immoral gays and opening the doors to Muslims.

Funny about MSN - I'm not sure about Salon.com, but the NYT is clearly part of the MSM, and NPR thinks the same way, i.e., not just left but way left, as do other beacons of the MSM like NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and about 90% of the nations newspapers, including the Milwaukee Journal.

And whatever Reverend Wright preached the other 99% of the times that we have not seen on tape, most of us have seen enough to wonder why Obama stayed there. If John McCain belonged to a church that occasionally preached KKK or white supremist policies, he would be gone from the race in a heartbeat. Obama gets much better treatment from the Main Stream Media, and I might add he gets much better treatment on Fox news than John McCain would on the MSM if the situation were reversed.

Hmm.... five albeit respected, Conservative opinion writers... well, sure, I'm sure they don't generally care for Obama. I have heard commentators saying he didn't go far enough, I don't really agree. While this pastor has made a lot of inflammatory remarks, those Youtube clips and speeches certainly do not represent *all* of what he was preaching for 20 years, but of course now most Americans believe that because of the media coverage of the same group of clips. Surely that is not true.

I don't know where the MSN comment comes from. I don't read MSN.com, ever. I get all my news from NPR and nytimes.com, and also read commentary on salon.com as well as other sites on the occasion that I am searching for news on a particular topic, like immigration. But I can't say I ever read the news coverage on MSN.

I'll grant you that Obama makes a good speech, and in fact, that is what he does best. But this most recent speech does not address the core issue that has arisen, and that is How does a candidate who supposedly "trandscends" race and claims to be a proponent of bringing people together sit in J Write's church for 20 years exposing himself and his family to the racist visciousness of Pastor Wright. What does it say about his judgement and courage that he did not remove his family from the influence of this foul mouthed hate monger?

Anyway, in the hope that you and/or some of your bloggers will make an attempt to gather some insights from reporters other than the embarassingly fawning MSM, here are 5 respectible journalists giving their comments on Obamas speech. They all say it was a good speech but.....
